Introduction to Hanz De Fuko Claymation review

It has been a while since our last hair product review on Samsons Hair Pomade. I have been reviewing other men’s grooming products like shaving, skincare, and cologne. Well, the reason was I was also looking to up my game in these areas. But deep down, I guessed hair styling products are something I am still most passionate about. Today, we have one of the legends, during the early days when pomade culture was reviving in the 2000s, Hanz De Fuko was already spreading its seeds around the world. Founded by David Alfonso and Christopher Zent in the Bay Area, San Francisco, Hanz De Fuko has established itself as one of the prominent men’s grooming brands, Today, we are reviewing one of its most well-known products – Hanz De Fuko Claymation. This product is probably one of the well-received hair styling clay even though it has been almost 12 years!

Design and Packaging

Filled in a semi-transparent plastic jar, similar to most of their hair styling products, you will surely not miss it from afar. The ocean green label is printed with instructions on how-to-use guide and the list of ingredients used.

It weighs only 56g (2oz) with a metallic coated cap, which is very light and definitely flight-friendly. I would say their packaging is also convenient for you to bring along in your gym back as well.

Scent

Claymation Hanz De Fuko does not focus much on scent as usual usage of fragrance might cause some allergies or sensitivities to some customers. Instead, they focused on safe ingredients and ingredients that enhance the performance of the product.

Performance of Hanz De fuko claymation

Texture

Upon scooping this hair styling clay out, you can feel some hardness on the top layer. But once you have penetrated the top layer, it is pretty much easy to scoop out. It has a thick and slightly creamy texture, takes a little effort to break down on your hand. You could feel its stickiness, which is a sign that it could probably hold quite well when styled with it. Washing off from my hand does take a little more effort with soap.

Styling

Despite its stickiness, I could apply and style it on my hair fairly easily. There’s just a little grip. Just make sure you break the clay down when rubbing on your palms before styling. I have attempted for dry hair and damp hair. My take is it is best on dry hair as it provides more volume and texture. On damp hair, it has some shine on it and does weigh down your hair.

Restylibility

This product doesn’t harden so restyling is not a problem. Throughout the day, I do restyle them once a while due to the humid weather.

Shine

Low Shine. There’s still a slight shine to it, very close to a matte product. The shine does fade towards the end of the day

Volume

If you blow dry with hair dryer, the Hanz De Fuko Claymation does give you some volume. But I do believe for volume, there are other better products out there like Arcadian Clay Pomade.

Hold

For most clay products, usually, they provide more texture rather than focus on the hold. Hanz De Fuko Claymation is a hybrid of wax and clay. Hence, i think the reason of adding wax is to give more hold. It does keep my hair in style, not too loose but also not too rigid. If you are going for a moderate defined style like a comb back with a little front hair dropping, this would give you that natural style. Overall, it’s a moderate high hold product.

Endurance

Hanz De Fuko Claymation hair does last close to 4-5 hours before I need a little restyling on the front to comb back my fringe. This is especially if I am outside running errands. Otherwise, if you are spending most of your time indoors working, it definitely holds much longer. With the pandemic now where I spend most of my time working from home, this product is definitely suitable for me to present myself well during my video calls. In addition, if you have fine hair, it might definitely last longer.

Washability

Still pretty fairly easy to wash off. One cycle of shampoo and conditioner each.
