Introduction
Gillette has been around for ages, known for its mass reach of product ranging from shaving creams, razors and post shaving products. However, I would say they are primarily focus on their shavers which has been going through an evolution as seen below and this includes the Gillette Fusion Proshield Razor with Flexball Technology:

Their goal is to create an easy to use shaver they gives a close shave, as close as to how a safety razor or a straight razor able to.
Earlier on we have done a comparison of different razors. This time, we are diving deep into how their latest product – the Gillette Fusion ProShield Razor With Flexball Technology.
The Flexball technology is not something new as it was already launched in 2014 with their Fusion Proglide. However, this new version which was launched in 2015 is well known for its lubrication strips before and after the blades. Let’s see how it perform overall.

Design & Material
It has a typical gillette plastic packaging that measures 19am tall with both handle and razor blade attached. It also comes with an extra blade.
Comes with 5 rows of sharp blades, it has lubricants both before and after the blades which is supposed to give your a more soothing shave. The handle is made of metal with rubber grip, designed for your thumb and index finger to have better grip while shaving.
The Flexball technology is incorporated so that your shaving journey follows the contour of your face, be it your chin, neck, jawline or side burns. The blades can be easily removed for replacement.
Interestingly, if you flip your razor blade around, you can use the precision trimmer on the backside . This is designed for you to shape the latest beard or facial hair styles.
Performance
For this review, I have used the Gillette Series Sensitive Shave Gel as my pre-shave regimen. First, I wash and pat my chin and upper lips with some warm water.
After applying the shaving gel, I slowly glide down my shaver along the direction of my moustache growth. I would say it’s very smooth especially when the blade is new.
The lubrication strip does help a lot to ensure there’s no nicks or cuts during the shave.
In terms of closeness of shave, I would say it would not be as good as the safety razor, but good enough to last for the day.

Durability
Gillette claims will last for one month of shaving – 3 to 4 times a week. Personally, I shave 7 times a week and it lasted me about 2 weeks before needing to change.
For the handle, I would change after 6 months as its metal and rubber grip will wear off
Cost
For the Razor with one extra cartridge (2 in total) it cost around $SGD 19.90
For its cartridges refill, it cost $SGD 56 for 8 units. This is equivalent to $SGD 7 per blade refill.
In my case, since one blade can be used for 14 shaves maximum, including the initial purchase of the razor with 2 blades, the total cost per shave is around $SGD 0.54 per shave.
Verdict
Overall, I feel the strong point for the Gillette Fusion ProShield Razor is convenient to use. If you are looking for something quick and easy, this is for you.
However, if you are looking for a close shave and don’t mind spending sometime to pickup some shaving skill, I would recommend a safety razor is more suitable.
